Add water, Cover. cook for 1 1/2 hours, turning occasionally. Add saffron,onions, buttermilk, garlic, ginger, pepper,slat, cloves,lemon peel, cardamom seeds, and rice. Mix top with nuts and fruit. Cover. Cook for 30-40 minutes longer. 8 servings.
