Being snowbound sometimes brings out the creativity in us all..... I just happened to plan a dinner of Sauerkraut and sausage one night last week, only to discover that the smoked sausage had already been cooked and eaten and there was only 1 can a sauerkraut in the house! You ask, 'If you're da cook, how'd ya fergit ya cooked it?' Well, when you live in a household of 4 adults; 3 out of 4 that cook; 2 out of four that work; and sleeping habits that are as varied as the changing seasons.... Its' simple! Ya digs deeper in da pantry and does with whatcha got!!! While this may not be original cuisine in its entirety, it sure was a first for me: The LyonsDen SDFAC Dinner "SDFAC = Something Different For A Change" 1 pkg. (12 oz) Frozen Hot Dogs - any favorite brand will do 1 can Chili Beans w/meat sauce 2 cans Pork n Beans 1 can (6 oz.) Tomato Paste 1 small onion finely diced 2 TBS. vegetable oil Dashes and splashes of the following: Worcestershire Sauce Liquid Hickory Smoke Garlic powder Onion powder The frozen hot dogs went into the microwave long enough to get a knife through them to slice lengthwise and then cut crosswise into small 'cubits' (g) Heat the oil and toss in the diced onion, simmering till transluscent; Toss in the dogs and add the cans of beans (minus the cans, silly!) Heat thoroughly, adding the splashes/dashes of items mentioned above and then the tomato paste. You may need to add a small amt. of water if the mixture looks Too thick. But be careful, you really want a consistency somewhere paralleling that of sloppy joes. The final product can be tossed over bread, openfaced similar to sloppy joes; or poured into a bowl and served with crackers ala a 'different' kind of 'chili'~ As far adding the seasonings and sauce/flavoring without measurements, this is geared to individual tastes. When it smells good - stop adding stuff! Surprisingly enough - the concoction, though viewed somewhat skeptically, was finished off in short order by all on hand. With wondrous cries of "How did you do that"? and "Can we have it again"? ringing in my ears I figured I'd best get it down on paper - or floating out in space as it were, where I could reach out and grab it again in a pinch for "What's for dinner tonight, honey?" ~ coming to you from West of the rising moon, and East of the setting sun ~ over the river and through the woods........ Being snowbound sometimes brings out the creativity in us all..... I just
happened to plan a dinner of
Sauerkraut and sausage one night last week,
only to discover that the smoked
sausage had already been cooked and eaten
and there was only 1 can a
sauerkraut in the house!
You ask, 'If you're da cook, how'd ya fergit ya
cooked it?'
Well, when you live in a household of 4 adults; 3 out of 4 that cook; 2
out of four that work; and sleeping habits that are as varied as the
changing seasons.... Its'
simple! Ya digs deeper in da pantry and does with
whatcha got!!!

While this may not be original
cuisine in its entirety, it sure was a
first for me:

The LyonsDen SDFAC Dinner
"SDFAC = Something Different For A Change"

1 pkg. (12 oz) Frozen
Hot Dogs - any favorite brand will do
1 can Chili
Beans w/meat sauce
2 cans
Pork n Beans
1 can (6 oz.)
Tomato Paste
1 small
onion finely diced
2 TBS. vegetable oil
Dashes and splashes of the following:
Worcestershire
Sauce
Liquid Hickory Smoke
Garlic powder
Onion powder

The frozen
hot dogs went into the microwave long enough to get a
knife through them to slice lengthwise and then cut crosswise into
small 'cubits' (
g)
Heat the oil and toss in the diced
onion, simmering till transluscent;
Toss in the dogs and add the cans of
beans (minus the cans, silly!)
Heat thoroughly, adding the splashes/dashes of items mentioned above and
then the
tomato paste. You may need to add a small amt. of
water if the mixture looks Too
thick. But be careful, you really want a
consistency somewhere paralleling that of sloppy joes.
The final product can be tossed over
bread, openfaced similar to sloppy
joes; or poured into a bowl and served with crackers ala a 'different' kind
of 'chili'~

As far adding the seasonings and
sauce/flavoring without measurements,
this is geared to individual tastes. When it smells good - stop adding stuff!

Surprisingly enough - the concoction, though viewed somewhat skeptically,
was finished
off in
short order by all on hand.
With wondrous cries of "How did you do that"? and "Can we have it again"?
ringing in my ears I figured I'd best get it down on paper - or floating out
in space as it were, where I could reach out and grab it again in a
pinch
for "What's for dinner tonight,
honey?"
