from NY, US 8 Tbs (1 stick, 110 g) butter cut into small pieces 2 cups (500 ml) plus 3 Tbs (45 ml) all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups (310 ml) sugar 1 cup (250 ml) chopped walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts 2 tsp (10 ml) ground cinnamon 2 tsp (10 ml) baking powder 1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt 1 egg 3/4 cup (180 ml) milk Note: basic & quick, perfect for morning coffee or brunch Combine 3 tablespoons (45 ml) butter, 3 tablespoons (45 ml) flour, 3/4 cup (180 ml) sugar, nuts, and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon in a small bowl, mix well, and set aside. Combine the remaining flour, butter, sugar, baking powder and salt and mix just until the butter is coated with flour. Add the egg and milk and mix until lumpy but well blended. Pour half the batter into a greased and floured 9-inch (23 cm) square cake pan and sprinkle with half the streusel mixture. Add the remaining batter and streusel and bake in a preheated 375F (190C) oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serves 6 to 8. Source: world wide recipes
