Pretzel Salad

This recipe was passed along by my southern (Arkansas) grandma along to my mother and myself. It sounds weird but it's good!


2 cups crushed salted pretzels (you can use unsalted)
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) melted margarine or butter
4 tbs sugar
Bake at 400 degrees for about 8 minutes--watch for overbaking! Let cool.

Then cream together:
1 (8 package) cream cheese
1 cup sugar
Fold in:
1 (8 ounce) container whipped topping (I use Cool Whip)

Spread evenly over cooled pretzel mixture.

Prepare 1 large (or 2 of the 4 serving size) packs of strawberry jello using 1 3/4 cups boiling water.

Stir in:
2 (10 ounce) packages of frozen strawberries (or the equivalent of fresh that have been marinated in equal amounts of sugar and water overnight).

Pour this on top of cream cheese mixture and refrigerate.

The kids seem to love this as dessert!
