Claret Sauce

I'm looking for a recipe for Claret sauce. The kind that you put on spumoni ice cream as a dessert. We used to get it everytime we visiting the local Italian restaurant. Of course, that was 25 years ago. Hoping someone has a recipe.

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/3 cup claret or light red wine

Boil sugar and water eight minutes; cool slightly, and add claret.
